If you want to get a jump start into a minimal life, it starts with some major cleaning and organizing.
Here are a couple of ways I made the change. They are pretty straight forward but can be tedious at times. Trust me, the work is well worth it in the end.
Step one:
Make a cleaning schedule. I'm talking about just sprucing up your home. This is a deep clean. Go through each room on the day you scheduled and clear out everything. Get rid of the junk that has been sitting there for months.
Step two:
Once you've gone through and cleaned every area of your home, it's time to organize.
Go to any store that sells organization supplies. Buy labels, closet organizers, drawer organizers, and file boxes. Get whatever else you think you need to organize your home to your liking. Go through a label everything. Put all the important papers (bills, personal information, account information, etc.) in files and into a file box or safe.
Labeling everything in file boxes allows you to know exactly where things are when you need them. This removes the hassle of finding that energy bill that is somewhere in a pile of other papers.
Step three:
This is the final step. Once you have organized your home and gotten rid of the junk it is time to keep it organized and clean. By a a calender, or make one. Each day of the week, expect weekends, do a chore. This way you can stay on top of cleaning and keep your home from becoming a mess again. If you make a to do list on your calender you can also keep track of when to buy groceries or new cleaning supplies. Calenders are the key to stay organized and on top of upcoming events.
I hope this will help you get a start to becoming clutter free.
Until next time,
Adriana
